God's WordBy your words I can see where I'm going; they throw a beam of light on my dark path - Psalm 119:105
What actually took place is this: I tried keeping rules and working my head off to please God, and it didn’t work. So I quit being a “law man” so that I could be God’s man. Christ’s life showed me how, and enabled me to do it. I identified myself completely with him. Indeed, I have been crucified with Christ. My ego is no longer central. It is no longer important that I appear righteous before you or have your good opinion, and I am no longer driven to impress God. Christ lives in me. The life you see me living is not “mine,” but it is lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I am not going to go back on that.
Can you identify with this scripture? Have you been trying to please God but failing after many attempts? After a long time, I realized that I was trying to get my old self, from the first Adam to follow God. That is impossible to accomplish. Think about what we are trying to do – take the old sinful nature and control it so it can follow God. Our old nature will never be converted to be sons and daughters of the Lord. Our old nature has only one end which is to be crucified with Christ. As the old nature is crucified, we are given a new heart and a new spirit (Ezekiel 36:26)
We are New Creations in Christ and He will show us how to live as we walk in the Spirit (2 Corinthians 5:17). He lives within us and the Holy Spirit empowers us. May we walk in His power and live the abundant life.
