What does "Being a New Creation in Christ" mean?
Let’s see what insight Galatians 2:19-23 gives us?
What actually took place is this: I tried keeping rules and working my head off to please God, and it didn’t work. So I quit being a “law man” so that I could be God’s man. Christ’s life showed me how, and enabled me to do it. I identified myself completely with him. Indeed, I have been crucified with Christ. My ego is no longer central. It is no longer important that I appear righteous before you or have your good opinion, and I am no longer driven to impress God. Christ lives in me. The life you see me living is not “mine,” but it is lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I am not going to go back on that. (Galatians 2:19-23)
New Creation Commentary
Can you identify with this scripture? Have you been trying to please God but failing after many attempts? After a long time, I realized that I was trying to get my old self, from the first Adam to follow God. That is impossible to accomplish. Think about what we are trying to do – take the old sinful nature and control it so it can follow God. Our old nature will never be converted to be sons and daughters of the Lord. Our old nature has only one end which is to be crucified with Christ. As the old nature is crucified, we are given a new heart and a new spirit (Ezekiel 36:26)
Freedom to Love!
It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows. For everything we know about God’s Word is summed up in a single sentence: Love others as you love yourself. That’s an act of true freedom.
New Creation Commentary
God’s Freedom gives us the power and opportunity to love others. We would typically think the “freedom” is designed for us. We usually want our freedom to indulge our flesh. We want what we want when we want it. Accepting Christ gives us the power over our flesh. We must accept by faith that “I have been crucified with Christ
